FEATURES OF THE SSW (SPECIFIED SKILLED WORKER) VISA — JAPAN

The Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) Visa enables foreign nationals to work legally in Japan in industries facing workforce shortages. Applicants are generally required to be 18 years or older, physically fit, and possess practical occupational skills that allow them to begin work with minimal additional training.

This program offers skilled workers the opportunity to gain professional experience, earn competitive income, and build sustainable long-term career prospects in Japan.

CATEGORIES OF SSW VISA

Japan provides two residence categories under the Specified Skilled Worker program.

■ SSW Type (i)

This category is intended for foreign workers possessing basic occupational knowledge and skills necessary to work in industries experiencing labor shortages.

■ SSW Type (ii)

This category applies to workers with advanced professional skills, allowing extended employment opportunities and the possibility of bringing family members to Japan, subject to certain conditions.
